Ruta Sepetys presented Between Shades of Grey

Como decíamos ayer...
Estas son algunas crónicas del evento del pasado 16 de octubre y que nos gustaría agradecer especialmente a Paula y a Carlos y cómo no a Ruta Sepetys.
Que os gusten.

On Thursday 16th October we attended a lecture by  the well known American writer Ruta Sepetys. It was very interesting because we learnt how her book was written, she explained the different travels and hard things that she underwent to write the book.

So far she has written two books:  "Between the shades of gray" and "Out of the Easy". In class we have read the first one, I  really enjoyed the book, because we  learnt about Lithuanian stories during  Stalin's government. This book has been translated into 34 languages.  Now she knows her family story, and the world knows more about the Lithuanians, who have the right to be known, because they had  suffered a lot from a terrible war.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know something more about Lithuania and to read an entertaining book.

On 16th October teachers from the English  Language  Department,Geography and History Department along  with students from the first and second years of Bachillerato participated in the presentation of the book Between Shades of Gray with its author, Ruta Sepetys. It took place in La Salle-Gran Vía school.

Ruta had a nice meeting with young readers. It was amazing that the story, narrated by a girl who is the main character, is based on true events given that following her grandfather's departure from Lithuania, members of his extended family were deported to Siberia. Stalin's deportations to Siberia affected countless families in the countries of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, yet much of the world knew nothing of it.

There is no one better than the author of the book to explain its content. Ruta Sepetys related so awful story with tons of smiles on her face, demonstrating that to enable us to prepare properly  for the future, we must be familiar with the past and our history.
Ruta answered all the questions students asked her, she also signed some books and took a lot of pictures with us. We all had a wonderful time there.
